Who is eligible for Medicare?


Anyone who:


1. has worked at least a total of ten years (40 quarters) and had Medicare taxes deducted from their paycheck during that period (or who has fewer work credits and agrees to pay the monthly premium for both Part A and Part B),


and who is:


2. a US citizen, or legal resident who has been in the US for at least 5 years, with a physical address in the US


and who is:


3. 65 or older, or under 65 with certain disabilities, or of any age with End Stage Renal Disease


is entitled to Part A and eligible to enroll in Part B by paying the Part B premium, but can only enroll in Part B during specific election periods.


The spouse and children of such a person may also qualify for Medicare without meeting the employment requirement.
